If you want an unsual and wonderful dining experience you should try these original restaurants. Since I live in Paris the places I have selected are all from this city and you will see there are quite a few !
LENA ET MIMILE
Lena and Mimile seems to be the only restaurant in Paris where you can have molecular gastronomy. Make sure you ask for the "note to note " menu when you make your reservation. Culinary inventiveness upon your plates.
REFUGE DES FONDUES
Winter is approaching and if you are feeling like having a fondue in an unusual restaurant this is the place you'll want to try. This small restaurant located near Montmartre has an incredible atmosphere : here the wine is served in baby's bottles, to get to the wall seat you have to step over the table, everybody talks to everybody.
The meal choice is simple : cheese or meat fondue ? red or white wine ?
I have to admit the wine isn't the best I've had but who would want to pay for an expensive wine and drink it in a baby's bottle !?
KOKOHANA
Have you ever been to a teppan-yaki restaurant ? It is a tabletop form of cooking that combines knife skills and an entertaining presentation. It tastes great too :-)
There are a few of these restaurants in Paris but they are all rather expensive. Kokohana is reasonable price wise.
YASUBE
In Japan there is nothing extraordinary about sitting on tatami mats during your diner but in France it is rather unusual. Their cooking is quite good and the price reasonable.
N.B. The dinner on tatami mats is on the lower level.
La victoire suprême du coeur
This is a highly unusual vegetarian restaurant. Have you ever tasted a chicken-free chicken or a vegetarian steak ? A remarkable similarity in appearence but a totally different taste ! Too bad they don't serve any beer or wine.
Wagon bleu
The diner takes place in an old 1927 carriage formely part of the famous orient express. The waiters aren't particularily amiable but the food is excellent and the change in scenery worth it.
APPAREMMENT CAFE
A place where you'll feel at home. They have a large choice of board games you can borrow. The concept here is that you choose the ingredients in your salad by ticking boxes on the menu. You won't want to leave this place !
LA GARE
This restaurant is located in an old railway station. The immense interior has adapted well into this cosy restaurant and the traditional cuisine is excellent. This is one of the places you must try in Paris.
